Molly Kien - Three Blind Mice

from Little Old, Little New, Little Bloom by Varied

/

about

This interpretation teaches children about contrasts in music: tonality to atonality, slow to fast, and soft to loud. The culmination comes when an accelerando is accompanied by increasing atonality and harshness with sul ponticello (playing by the bridge) in the strings, followed by an abrupt return to tonality at the very end of the piece.

Molly Kien is based in Stockholm, Sweden, serving as Vasteras Sinfonietta's composer-in-residence. She holds a master's in music composition from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, and a Bachelor's in music composition from IU Jacobs School of Music. After working with Sven-David Sandstrom at Jacobs, she traveled to the Gotland School of Music Composition. With awards from London's Alvarez Chamber Orchestra and the Uppsala Composers, her works have been performed by the Swedish Radio Choir, Kammarensemble, and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra. www.mollykien.com

lyrics

Three blind mice.
Three blind mice.
See how they run! See how they run!
They all ran after the farmer's wife,
Who cut off their tails with a carving knife.
Did you ever see such a fright in your life
As three blind mice?
